Denise Whimpey Funeral Celebrant

I became a celebrant because I believe in the power of ceremony to mark life’s milestones.  A funeral in particular should help family and friends left behind after someone dies. It’s an opportunity to pay tribute, to recognise our loss and express our grief together. Whatever our personal beliefs, we need a meaningful and authentic ceremony.

For me, being a funeral celebrant is a profound experience and I feel honoured to have the opportunity to help people in a real and important way. My aim as a funeral celebrant is to reduce your stress as much as possible during this difficult time. I will meet with you at a time and place that suits you, and take the time to really listen. Then together we can create a ceremony that truly commemorates and celebrates the unique person you have lost.

As an experienced health practitioner and facilitator, I have worked with people across the lifespan for many years. I have also taught Palliative Care and Loss and Grief to health professionals, so I bring a depth of understanding and sensitivity to my role as a celebrant. You can be confident that as your funeral celebrant I will choose the right words, and present with clarity and warmth.

About Funerals

A Funeral Director will arrange all the details about the funeral, including:

  • the legalities, such as registering the death with the Registry of Births Deaths and Marriages

  • helping you understand burial or cremation options

  • choosing a coffin or casket

  • placing death and funeral notices

  • arranging the venue

  • organising flowers

  • arranging memorial books and orders of service

  • organising refreshments.

There are several ways you can say goodbye. For instance, you may choose to have a funeral service where the casket is present, then proceed to the cemetery or crematorium.  Or you may prefer a memorial service, without the casket present, as well as a small service at the cemetery for family and close friends to say their goodbyes.

As your Funeral Celebrant, I will help you to write the funeral service so that it best reflects and celebrates your loved one’s life. I can provide resources and ideas for readings, poems and music.  I will contact the Funeral Director and work closely with them to ensure that everything runs smoothly. And on the day, I am there to support everyone who is speaking during the service.
